Abstract/Description: | Image shows view looking southwest of Malaga Cove Plaza with parking lots and commercial buildings, including the Gardner Building (right), the Towle Building (center) and the corner of the Davis Building (left). The Gardner building (lot 15), built by W.W. Gardner in 1925, was the first commercial building and also housed the first classrooms on the Peninsula. It was designed by the architectural firm of Walter I Webber, Sumner Maurice Spaulding, and William F. Staunton. The Towle Building (lot 16), the first three story building in the Plaza was completed in 1960 and designed Leroy Young of Young and Remington Architects. It featured an outdoor cafe on the south side of the building. The Davis Building (lot 12) was designed and built by owner-architect, Walter Swindle. Davis and was completed in 1951. |
