View from outside Miraleste Library, Rancho Palos Verdes, California

Abstract/Description: Image shows view looking southeast showing Palos Verdes Drive East and the Long Beach Harbor in the distance. Taken from the lot adjacent to the north side of the Miraleste Library, image shows automobiles parked along the street and telephone poles at center. Landscaping on the slope on the east side of the library is visible at right. Located at 29089 Palos Verdes Drive East in Rancho Palos Verdes, the library was designed by architect Thomas J. Russell and opened on October 24, 1970. Plans for a library facility on the east side of the Peninsula started as early as 1964. At that time, the nearest library was a Los Angeles County Library facility located on Narbonne Avenue. Library services were provided to the community with a small collection at the Miraleste School. While the permanent facility was being built, the Library District had an interim branch from 1966 to 1970 at Miraleste Plaza.
