Abstract/Description:	Image shows view looking east of the north facade of the Peninsula Shopping Center with signage for Thrifty Drug Store (left), Rea’s True Value Hardware (center) and Wetherby Kayser (left). A white van is visible to the right. Inscribed on the back of the image is “Peninsula Center.” The Peninsula Shopping Center was developed by Jerry Moss and Palos Verdes Properties on a 30 acre site bounded by Indian Peak Road, Crossfield Drive, Silver Spur Road and Hawthorne Boulevard. It celebrated its grand opening in May 1961. Thrifty Drug Store, Rea’s Hardware and Wetherby Kayser were some of the earliest tenants in the Peninsula Shopping Center. The architectural firm of Gruen & Associates were commissioned to design the project with a mix of modern and Spanish architecture. Peninsula Shopping Center itself was part of the larger Peninsula Center development project on approximately 100 acres of land along Silver Spur between Hawthorne Boulevard and Crenshaw.
