Abstract/Description: Image shows storefront view of a bookstore (left), World Savings (center), and Paine, Webber, Jackson & Curtis office (right) in the Peninsula Shopping Center. The Peninsula Shopping Center was developed by Jerry Moss and Palos Verdes Properties on a 30 acre site bounded by Indian Peak Road, Crossfield Drive, Silver Spur Road and Hawthorne Boulevard. It celebrated its grand opening in May 1961. The architectural firm of Gruen & Associates were commissioned to design the project with a mix of modern and Spanish architecture. Peninsula Shopping Center itself was part of the larger Peninsula Center development project on approximately 100 acres of land along Silver Spur between Hawthorne Boulevard and Crenshaw.
