Nakajiro and Asa Miki

Image is a partial page of photo album with pink trim., Library has digital image only, courtesy of Michiko Tanaka., Nakajiro Miki (1879-1939) was born in Kanna-Machi, Kanna-Gun, Gunma-Prefecture, Japan and emigrated to the U. S. about 1908.  He spent several years in Hawaii prior to entering the U. S.  Asa Miki (nee Yoshida) was born in Kami-Okudira, Tano-Gun, Yoshii-Machi, Gunma Prefecture, Japan in 1886.  She emigrated in 1915 and married Nakajiro in the same year in Inglewood, CA.  The couple first settled in Lennox where the first two (Nobuko and Tomiko) of their six daughters were born.  After two years in Redondo Beach where their next two daughters (Ryoko and Michiko) were born, the family moved to Palos Verdes.  Yaeko and Yuriko, the last of the Miki children, were born in Palos Verdes. The Miki children first attended school in Redondo Beach.  When Malaga Cove School opened, they attended school in Palos Verdes.  When the Miki's farm located near present-day Rosita Place in Palos Verdes Estates was needed for development, the family was forced to relocated to Ranch 41 in Lunada Bay, just above Palos Verdes Drive West.  The family farmed 200 acres of vegetables and flowers which the girls sold along Palos Verdes Dr. West.
