Frederick Law Olmsted, Jr.

Abstract/Description: Image shows full-length view of Frederick Law Olmsted, Jr. (1870-1957), landscape architect and city planner for Palos Verdes Project. Mr. Olmsted is shown wearing a hat and suit, pipe in hand, walking down flagstone steps next to a stonework wall with wood post fencing of his home, designed by Myron Hunt, on Rosita Place. Mr. Olmsted, a graduate of Harvard University (1894), formed the Olmsted Brothers landscaping firm with his half-brother, John Charles Olmsted (1852-1920), and by 1920 his projects included plans for metropolitan park systems and greenways across the country. In 1929 he developed the guiding plan for California's state park system.
