Buchanan Residence, 700 Via Somonte, Malaga Cove, Palos Verdes Estates.

Abstract/Description: Image shows view of the Mr. and Mrs. James E. Buchanan residence, located on Via Somonte, on lots 14, 27 & 26 block 1516, tract 6884 in Malaga Cove. View shows courtyard patio of single-story, seven-room stucco house with tile roof. An olive tree is visible in foreground of the stonework patio, with a water fountain at far right, a figural sculpture in arched niche in background, and adjacent homes on sloping hill at right. Landscaping was designed by the Olmsted Brothers, Frederick Law Olmsted Jr. (1870-1957) and John Charles Olmsted (1852-1920.) This home is said to have received an honor award from the Southern California chapter of the American Institute of Architects for residences of seven to fifteen rooms, 1927-1929. The home was later owned by Miles Blaine, Irmadelle and Beatrice Rous, and Roy Nutt.
