Abstract/Description: Image shows interior view of the Mr. and Mrs. James E. Buchanan residence, located on Via Somonte, on lots 14, 27 & 26 block 1516, tract 6884 in Malaga Cove. View shows living room of single-story, seven-room stucco house with tile roof. Visible is a long carved wooden table in front of recessed alcove at right with carved wooden panel, bookshelves and a bust sculpture of a woman flanked by a pair of glass ewers. A large stone sculpture of a lioness with cubs is visible on the table, and a longcase clock is visible at far right. Landscaping was designed by the Olmsted Brothers, Frederick Law Olmsted Jr. (1870-1957) and John Charles Olmsted (1852-1920.) This home is said to have received an honor award from the Southern California chapter of the American Institute of Architects for residences of seven to fifteen rooms, 1927-1929. The home was later owned by Miles Blaine, Irmadelle and Beatrice Rous, and Roy Nutt. Reverse of photo ink-stamped with "Padilla Company / Photography / 213 South Broadway / Los Angeles, California".
