Casa del Portal, Malaga Cove Plaza, Palos Verdes Estates, California

Abstract/Description: Image shows view looking southeast across Granvia La Costa (later known as Palos Verdes Drive West) at the Alpha Syndicate Building (later known as Casa del Portal), designed by architects Webber, Staunton, and Spaulding. Visible is the west-facing façade of the brick building's loggia and north façade of the sally port archway across Via Chica. A truck and three automobiles are visible near the building. Original occupants of the building included real estate broker I. Lossman (hence the building also being referred to as the Lossman Building), the local Boy Scouts organization, and served as police headquarters under Chief William Woosley. Casa del Portal was the site of the area's first nursery school, and during World War II was served as a Red Cross Center.
