Abstract/Description: Image shows view looking north toward Granvia La Costa (later known as Palos Verdes Drive West) through the sally port archway across Via Chica of the Alpha Syndicate Building (later known as Casa del Portal), designed by architects Webber, Staunton, and Spaulding. Two automobiles are visible parked at right. Original occupants of the building included real estate broker I. Lossman (hence the building also being referred to as the Lossman Building), the local Boy Scouts organization, and served as police headquarters under Chief William Woosley. Casa del Portal was the site of the area's first nursery school, and during World War II was served as a Red Cross Center.
