Palos Verdes High School, Palos Verdes Estates, California

Abstract/Description: Image shows view looking south at the north facade, flagpole and parking lot of the campus of Palos Verdes High School, located at 600 Cloyden Road in Palos Verdes Estates. The campus, designed by renowned architects Richard Neutra, Robert Alexander and Carrington Lewis, combines classic Mid-Century Modernism with traditional elements of gabled roofs and stucco walls. Construction on the building started in March 1960 and opened in September of the following year as the first high school on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. In 1991, the high school closed due to declining enrollment on the Peninsula and was reconfigured for 6th through 8th graders, reopening as Palos Verdes Intermediate School in September. In 2002, the site returned for use as a high school and reopened as Palos Verdes High School.
