Casa del Portal, Malaga Cove Plaza, Palos Verdes Estates, California
Abstract/Description: | Image shows street level view looking south east at the Casa del Portal Building (previously known as the Alpha Syndicate Building), designed by architects Webber, Staunton, and Spaulding. Visible is the west-facing façade of the brick building's loggia and north façade of the sally port archway across Via Chica with apartment buildings visible in the background. Original occupants of the building included real estate broker I. Lossman (hence the building also being referred to as the Lossman Building), antique dealer, interior decorator, and the local Boy Scouts organization. It also served as police headquarters under Chief William Woosley. Casa del Portal was the site of the area's first nursery school, and during World War II served as a Red Cross Center. |
