| Abstract/Description: | 'This is an image of me and my friend Daniel Ishibashi when we first got to Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island. Daniel was about 23 years old and I was 22. Daniel and I grew up together on the Peninsula. We attended the same elementary school. He was also the best man at my wedding. Daniel, myself and my wife drove across the country together to get to Rhode Island for school. It took us four or five days to get there. This was before the freeways. At the motels, I'd mention that Daniel was Japanese, and all but one had no problem with that. We had a great trip. Pictured from left to right: Daniel Ishibashi, Richard "Dick" Smith (contributor).
