Hideo Takenaga and horse plowing peas

Hideo Takenaga was a member of Palos Verdes Young Men's Association, an organization consisting of the sons of farmers belonging to the San Pedro Vegetable Marketing Company., Library has digital image only, courtesy of Diane Takenaga., Hideo Takenaga was born to Genemon Takenaga and Oso Wakamatsu. Hideo had a younger brother, Tsutomu, and several step brothers and sisters through his father's remarriages after Oso passed away. Hideo was a member of the Palos Verdes Young Men's Association, a club consisting of the sons of the farmers that belonged to the San Pedro Vegetable Marketing Company. He later worked as president of the San Pedro Vegetable Marketing Company. The Takenagas lived in Gardena on 190th street and Normandie and later in Torrance near 218th street before moving to the Peninsula in August 1925.  They leased a farm on an ocean bluff south of what is now the Lunada Bay area (Ranch 29?). Two years later they moved to a house near Ranch 32(?) where they lived until 1942.  After Genemon was arrested and eventually sent to North Dakota, Hideo moved with  the rest of the family and other Japanese families to Strathmore, CA. Later,  Hideo and his family were sent to Poston, Arizona where Genemon joined them. After the war and their release from Poston, the Takenaga family returned to Southern California. Genemon and Hideo first leased a farm in the Pico Rivera area, but moved to La Mirada near Imperial Highway and raised cauliflower. The Takenaga family does not appear in the 40 Families Photograph.
