Library has digital image only, courtesy of Hideko Shono. Henry Haruo Yoshimoto was born to Tomonoshin Yoshimoto and Mika Isobe on March 21, 1929. Tomonoshin Yoshimoto and his wife were both born in Saga, Kumage, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan. Henry Haruo Yoshimoto had two older sisters, Haruye and Fumiko, and one older brother, Kazuo. By 1930, the Yoshimoto family owned a home (Ranch 18) on the Palos Verdes Highway, south of the Vanderlip Estate above Abalone Cove. In 1940, Henry's father was farming for his neighbor, Masaichi Ishibashi, who lived at Ranch 19. Henry moved to Strathmore, California with his mother and siblings before being deported to Poston, Arizona. After the war, the family moved to Long Beach, California. In the 40 Family Photograph the Yoshimotos are numbered as follows: Tomonoshin (#7), Mika (#82), Kazuo (#153) and Haruye (#162). |
