Yutaro Kawashiri and his granddaughter Chiyo

Yutaro Kawashiri was taking Chio to nursery school., Library has digital image only, courtesy of Hideko Shono., Yutaro Kawashiri was born in Tottori, Japan on October 22, 1871 and attended school there for five years.  He immigrated to the U. S. arriving in Vancouver, Canada on Nov. 30, 1905. Yutaro married Fumeno Kadonaga (b. Feb. 28, 1872) in 1891.  She joined Yutaro in 1914.  Yutaro and Fumeno had three children: Yasukichi, their first child was born in Japan (Oct. 17, 1899), and Yoshito (b. Feb. 10, 1914) and Mitsuko (b. June 11, 1920 ) were both born in Los Angeles County.  Yutaro and his two sons were truck farmers and laborers.  Yutaro was interned in the Poston Relocation Center with Yoshito and Yasukichi's family.  Fumeno died just before the War on Oct. 22, 1941.
