Lin-Feng Shui-In
Abstract/Description: | The artist’s late grandmother. Granny Shui-In was born in Shuei Nan Dong, a small village by the ocean approximately 40 miles northeast of Taipei City. She was a hardworking housewife who, besides supporting her husband and four children, also ran a small sundry store that was popular in the neighboring town of Jinguashi. Times were very tough in the early days as Taiwan was colonized by the Japanese. While being forced to receive Japanese education and learn the Japanese culture, she knew her heart belonged to Taiwan, the land that provided her and her family everything. Pictured here is Granny Shui-In and the artist’s deceased dog Tyson the ferocious Chihuahua (named after Mike Tyson). Granny Shui-In loved pets and whenever she visited the artist in the U.S. she would secretly prepare gourmet feasts for Tyson. The artist misses both of them very much but she knows that Granny Shui-In and Tyson are taking good care of each other and having lots of fun in heaven. Location: Rancho Palos Verdes, CA. |
