Carli Wibroe

Born in Denmark, Carli was waiting to enter the university when Nazi Germany invaded the country. Due to the curfew imposed by the Nazis, she and her six siblings were often stuck at home; she kept herself busy by creating handiwork such as embroidery and lacemaking. Her husband Ole was active in the Resistance, committing acts of Sabotage against the Nazis. When World War II ended, both of them attended the University of Copenhagen, at which she received a degree in nursing and her husband in engineering.

Shortly after, Carli and her husband decided to immigrate to the USA. Their first home was in San Francisco, however they found the city to be too cold and later moved to warmer Southern California where they eventually bought a home in Palos Verdes Estates. Here, they raised a daughter and a son. Olina is her only grandchild who recently completed her Master’s degree in Denmark and is working for a state senator. Location: Palos Verdes Estates, CA.

Carli’s message for the world:
“Keep your sense of humor; be able to laugh at yourself!”
