George Chao

George was born in Guiyang, China, during the Resistance Movement against the Japanese. After the war, he and his family fled to Taiwan where he obtained a degree in mechanical engineering. Upon graduation, he received a grant to study aeronautics at the California Institute of Technology, so he immigrated to the United States and settled in Southern California. After receiving his master’s degree in Aeronautics and Engineering, he worked for Jet Propulsion Laboratory, obtained a PHD at UCLA in Astrodynamics, then went on to work for the Aerospace Corporation and became one of the core members that worked on space research and development.

George stayed at the Aerospace Corporation until he retired. Upon retirement the company requested him to write a book and Applied Orbital Perturbation and Maintenance was the result. This book was so successful and received raved reviews that he’s now working on its second edition. His innovations in satellite orbit control also earned him two U.S. Patents. George remains healthy today and actively practices tai chi which he teaches every weekend to over 100 students. Life in retirement is very enjoyable for him. Location:  Rolling Hills Estates, CA.
