Denver Hentrup
Abstract/Description: | Denver was born in Indiana. At around 5 years old his father took him to the airport to look at airplanes. Denver was so excited that he ran too fast and fell down on a running board and injured his forehead severely. Unfortunately he did not get to see planes that day, but went to the doctors instead. Later on he developed a love for airplanes and couldn’t stop obsessing over them since. After going to school Denver joined the Air Force. Instead of being the Jet Mechanic that he wanted to become, he was assigned the job of a GCA – Ground Controlled Approach – and guided aircrafts to safe landings using a radar system. He then was assigned to England for three years to fully implement this air traffic technique to service airplanes. After leaving the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as an Air Traffic Controller for 12 years, he moved down to Los Angeles and has been in Southern California ever since with a beautiful wife who absolutely adores him. Unfortunately in 2007, their home had a house fire with minimal insurance coverage. Growing up, Denver had always helped his father build houses and performed various handyman construction to help pay bills, so he had the knowledge and skills to rebuild his own house. Denver, 69 ½ years old at the time, dismantled the entire fire-damaged house and rebuilt a two-story home all by himself. The construction took him 2 ½ years to complete. Location: Torrance Municipal Airport - Zamperini Field, Torrance, CA. Denver’s message for the world: “Quit hating each other.” |
