Dan Weinstein

Dan grew up in Chicago and loved riding motorcycles in his younger days. During a short break from his Army service, he took a trip to Los Angeles and fell in love with the city. After getting out of the service he hopped on the train and moved to Southern California. His first job out in Los Angeles was with North American Aviation in which he went on to work for 20 years. During that time, he met a buddy named Bob DeSpain who became Dan’s life-long friend.

In 1953, shortly after the two met, Dan was badly injured in a motorcycle accident. Bob was very kind and took care of Dan as he healed, and Dan never forgot the help that he received from his dear friend. As Dan got to know Bob better, Dan realized that Bob was just a natural leader whom people love to congregate around. It was very typical of Bob to lend a helping hand and make sure everyone around him was taken care of.

After 64 years of friendship, Bob passed away on June 30th, 2017 at the age of 91 after an illness. Dan misses Bob very much and wishes to honor him by sharing Bob’s heroic past of helping this country win WWII during his service in the Navy, rescuing wounded shipmates when his ship the Destroyer USS Hoel sank, and making a difference in the lives of everyone he met. Location: USS Iowa, San Pedro, CA.

Dan’s message for the world:
“Learn to live together in peace.”
