De De Hicks
Abstract/Description: | Growing up on a farm in Iowa, De De was used to life without electricity, indoor plumbing, and running water. That childhood experience has led her to be grateful for simple things that she is able to enjoy today, such as having hot water in her shower. She is blessed with four sons, wonderful daughters in-law, and grandchildren, and she loves their big family gatherings where everyone sings and just has a wonderful time together. De De has had a long and rich background in the non-profit sector that allowed her to help people in need. For 30 years, she was the President of The Volunteer Center at South Bay – Harbor – Long Beach, which serves as the hub of volunteer activities for 400 nonprofit organizations in 43 cities. She was also the President of the Community Association of the Peninsula (CAP), the Founder of the Information Center for the Peninsula Community, the Founder of Legacy that promotes donor organ transplant education, the President of St. John Fisher Parish Women’s Council, the President of Archbishop’s Guild Circle, the President of the Holy Cross Altar Society, the President of the Associates of Palos Verdes Community Arts Association, the President of the Palos Verdes League of Women Voters, and Palos Verdes Citizen of the Year and Torrance Citizen of the year, just to name a few of a long list of amazing accomplishments that De De has achieved. When she retired, the historic Volunteer Center was even named the De De Hicks Building. Currently, she occupies her time being the President of the Affinity Group, which is a support group for the Volunteer Center. Location: Rancho Palos Verdes, CA. De De’s message for the world: “Don’t ever let anything be ordinary.” |
