William "Bill" and Florence Horn
Abstract/Description: | Bill was born in Wisconsin, outside of Milwaukee, and learned to golf at a very early age because there was a golf course built next to his childhood home. While attending the University of Wisconsin for Agriculture, a civilian pilot training program had just started and Bill completed all five programs the university had to offer and obtained his pilot’s license. After college, he went on to work for United Airlines where he flew the Dodgers baseball team, and met his future wife Florence, who was working as a stewardess. Florence was born in Chicago and went to the University of Illinois. When World War II broke out, most airlines turned to colleges to seek for stewardesses and Florence was in the first class of co-eds that was chosen. After she and Bill were married, the couple moved to Rolling Hills where they helped to form the city by serving on the Board of Metropolitan Water District and being the advisor to the Sanitation District. Bill eventually went on to become the Mayor and Councilman of the City of Rolling Hills. Location: Rolling Hills, CA. Bill’s message for the world: “Consider each person as an individual. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” Florence’s message for the world: “Try to obtain peace. Love everyone or at least tolerate those you can’t love.” |
