Maureen Nunn

Growing up in Palos Verdes, Maureen had always aspired to work in the space program. After graduating from Purdue University with a degree in aeronautical engineering, she had difficulties obtaining a job in the field simply due to her gender. Undefeated, she then decided to pursue a career in her college minor instead, which was Spanish, and started teaching Spanish to Americans and English to foreigners. Eventually she shifted from teaching language to parenting relationships and marriage to non-profit groups such as Community’s Child, Harbor Interfaith, and even now with the U.S. Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton.

Throughout Maureen’s busy teaching career, she was also helping people abroad. Following her parents’ passion for the country and people of Uganda, she would make biannual trips to the country to work with the community – doing everything from visiting the sick, working in the schools, organizing soccer games or simply speaking with local women about their needs. Upon retirement, she took on a new challenge in television production and produced Everyday Heroes and Comunidad Latina con Maria y Lety that became an award-winning program. When the shows ended, she went on to write a number one selling child-rearing advice book titled Got Kids.

Today, Maureen is a mother to five grown children and grandmother to four grandsons and one granddaughter. She still visits Uganda biannually and teaches at different groups providing people the education and information to turn their lives around and move forward. Location: Rolling Hills, CA.

Maureen’s message for the world:
“To find peace and harmony with yourself and then spreading that peace and joy to other people that can help affect change in the world.”
