NoteThe Palos Verdes Library District had its beginnings in June 1926, first as a small library of mostly donated books by citizens, and then as the Palos Verdes Branch of the Los Angeles County Free Library System. In December 1927, a petition was filed with the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors to create an independent library district. The Board of Supervisors ordered an election to be held in January 1928 to assess the formation of the proposed district. Of the 45 votes cast, 44 were in favor of the district. The district was declared established on February 6, 1928. It continued to be a part of the Los Angeles Country Free Library System until June 30, 1929 when it was officially withdrawn.
