Robert S. Harrah Photographs of Robert Boyd and the Palos Verdes Peninsula

This collection contains photographs taken by photographer, Robert S. Harrah of sheep herder, Robert "Bob" Boyd and his band of Karakul sheep. Images include Boyd with his horse, Cue Ball and his herding dog, Tippie; Karakul sheep; Boyd maintaining records; headshots and candid shots of Boyd; and shots of the Palos Verdes Peninsula. The collection also includes photos of Peggy Lee and Peggy Dow modeling clothing created from Karakul wool.

Boyd grazed his sheep in what is now the City of Rancho Palos Verdes, City of Rolling Hills and the City of Rolling Hills Estates from the late 1930s to 1951. In an agreement with the Palos Verdes Corporation, Boyd was allowed to pasture his band of sheep in the hills and canyons to reduce fire hazards. Some images are mounted on cardboard and appear to have been used in a exhibit called, The Moments Past. Text in English and French is included on the reverse side of some of the images.
