Inscribed on the back of the image is “Peninsula Center.” The Peninsula Shopping Center was developed by Jerry Moss and Palos Verdes Properties on a 30 acre site bounded by Indian Peak Road, Crossfield Drive, Silver Spur Road and Hawthorne Boulevard. It celebrated its grand opening in May 1961. Thrifty Drug Store, Rea’s Hardware and Wetherby Kayser were some of the earliest tenants in the Peninsula Shopping Center. The architectural firm of Gruen & Associates were commissioned to design the project with a mix of modern and Spanish architecture.
