Community Association of the Peninsula (CAP) Multicultural Committee materials

Includes photographs, flyers and clippings documenting the activities of the Community Association of the Peninsula (CAP) and its Multicultural Committee. 

CAP was established in 1978 as the Palos Verdes Peninsula Community Center Association (PVPCCA).  Founded by community members Agnes Moss and Joan Moe, CAP was formed to obtain facilities and support for cultural, recreational and social services on the Peninsula. CAP's first major project was the creation of the Norris Community Theatre, the first performing arts facility on the Peninsula. 

CAP's Multicultural Committee (also called the Multicultural Affairs Committee) was started in the fall of 1985 to identify the needs and concerns of the Peninsula's developing ethnic communities and to build intercultural awareness and appreciation, communication and co-operation.  The Committee sponsored multicultural events such as the Multicultural Festive Feasts in which participants brought their favorite ethnic dish to share with other attendees.  Later, it also held Multicultural Musicales featuring a different type of musical program Both events were held on a single day in 10 to 12 private homes on the Peninsula and provided guests with opportunities to connect with people from different cultural backgrounds in a friendly and welcoming environment. 

Also includes materials from the Multicultural Advisory Board for the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District's Peninsula High School, which received funding from the Multicultural Committee, for multicultural outreach and programming. 

Donated to the Local History Center by community member Ramona Pei who was involved in both organizations.
